DEC, 1995. Babel Fish lived here too. Both names are fossils.

## Why it lasted
- The search engine that felt like magic in 1996. Faster and bigger than the directory.

## Near deaths
- Compaq, HP, Overture, Yahoo. Each owner was less interested in search than the last.

## What would finish it
- Yahoo turned it off in 2013. Google had already taken the verb.
