# Django

Standing (still-up). Founded 2005-07-21.
Site: [djangoproject.com](https://djangoproject.com)

Lawrence Journal-World, 2005. Named after Django Reinhardt. Still the responsible Python web.

## Why it lasted
- Batteries included is still a selling point after twenty years of microframeworks.
- The admin, the ORM, and the security defaults are why news orgs and governments still start here.
- It is Python, so the ML people already have it on the machine.

## Near deaths
- Flask and FastAPI took the cool. Django kept the CMS-shaped apps.

## What would finish it
- Python web going entirely ASGI-micro plus a generated admin that is actually nicer. Has not landed as a default.
