## Why it lasted
- A Dockerfile is a unit of thought. Kubernetes did not replace that noun.
- Docker Hub plus the desktop app kept developers even after the orchestration wars.
- The company stumbled. The format did not.

## Near deaths
- The 2019-2021 company near-death and the Kubernetes takeover of the narrative. Compose files kept getting written.
- Licensing changes on Docker Desktop. People complained and paid, or moved to Colima, and still typed docker.

## What would finish it
- A build/run UX that is not Docker and is the default on every laptop. Podman wants this. Laptops still say docker.
