## Why it lasted
- Google donated the Borg-shaped idea and every cloud had to speak it.
- It is ugly YAML and it won anyway, which is how you know it is infrastructure.
- The job title 'platform engineer' is a Kubernetes aftershock.

## Near deaths
- HashiCorp Nomad, Docker Swarm, Mesos: the other orchestrators. CNCF gravity won.

## What would finish it
- A simpler default (Cloudflare, ECS, a functions platform) making most teams honestly not need it. Already true for many. Not true for the platform teams.
