# LiveJournal

Hollow (zombie). Founded 1999-04-15.
Site: [livejournal.com](https://livejournal.com)

Brad Fitzpatrick, 1999. The original blog with moods. Still up. Barely in the conversation.

## Why it lasted
- A Russian-speaking and fandom diaspora that never fully moved.
- The blog-before-blogs culture still has archives that matter to the people in them.

## Near deaths
- Brad Fitzpatrick sold. SUP, then other owners. Dreamwidth forked the soul. LJ kept the URL.

## What would finish it
- Hosting economics plus a jurisdiction that makes the remaining users leave. Slow.
