# MapQuest

Hollow (zombie). Founded 1996-01-01.
Site: [mapquest.com](https://mapquest.com)

Cartesian, then MapQuest, 1996. Print these directions. Please don't.

## Why it lasted
- The printed directions era. AOL ownership. A brand that still ranks for 'directions' among people who learned the web in 2003.

## Near deaths
- Google Maps, 2005. That was the death. The site is the afterimage.

## What would finish it
- SEO finally drying up. The zombie eats queries from memory.
