Ev Williams, 2012. Still pretty. Still searching for a business that is not a puzzle.

## Why it lasted
- The editor and the URL still mean 'a post that looks like a post'.
- Publications and the Partner Program keep a class of writers in the building.

## Near deaths
- Ev Williams has restarted the business model more times than a sitcom. Each pivot sheds users.
- Substack took the paid writer. Personal sites took the rest.

## What would finish it
- The paywall becoming a joke and the writers going home. Halfway there.
