# Reddit

Wavering (wobbling). Founded 2005-06-23.

Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, 2005. Still the place you go when the official docs are a lie.

## Why it lasted
- It is the comment section of the internet, and Google still sends people there for the human thread.
- Subreddits are institutions. They migrate slower than apps.

## Near deaths
- The 2023 API / third-party app revolt. Communities went dark. Most came back because the audience did not move.
- Digg's 2010 redesign is the ghost Reddit still sees in the mirror.

## What would finish it
- Search that no longer needs the thread, plus a redesign that finally does a Digg. AI licensing is the current wobble.
