## Why it lasted
- It is in every phone, every browser, every airplane, and most 'we don't need a database' apps.
- Public domain, single file, no server. There is nothing to cancel and almost nothing to break.
- D. Richard Hipp ships like a utility, not a startup.

## Near deaths
- Nobody tried to kill it. They just forgot it was there, which is how infrastructure survives.

## What would finish it
- A similarly small embedded engine with WAL and thirty years of test files. Good luck.
