Jon Skinner, 2008. Still fast. Still a license you actually buy.

## Why it lasted
- Speed and multiple cursors. It taught VS Code what to steal.
- A paid editor that never became a company-with-a-platform. People respect that.

## Near deaths
- Atom, then VS Code, for free, with extensions. Sublime kept the people who wanted a fast box, not a city.

## What would finish it
- Jon Skinner stopping, plus VS Code getting as light as Sublime. The second one is the threat.
